Healthwatch Richmond, in partnership with NHS Richmond and the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, will be hosting COVID-19 Vaccinations in Richmond: What you need to know a free event featuring a panel of the top local experts delivering the vaccination programme to answer questions from the community about the vaccine and its rollout in the Borough.

Although the Government has not suspended public worship during this lockdown, all but three churches in the Deanery took the difficult decision to close for in-person worship but all still remained open for private prayer.

Services from Southwark Cathedral
Southwark Cathedral will continue to stream Morning Prayer from the Cathedral each day at 9am. Night Prayer will continue to be streamed at 8pm Monday to Saturday and at 6pm on Sunday. Carers Together is a new initiative to bring informal carers (unpaid carers who look after a friend or relative) together for support and encouragement, through weekly zoom meetings.
Starting on 21st January they will be hosting zoom meetings for informal carers every Thursday at 3pm. Those without internet access can phone in. The idea of the meetings are to give carers the opportunity to chat with others in similar situations for mutual support, in small breakout room groups. There will also be monthly guest speakers on relevant subjects with discussions afterwards.
For those who would like prayer support there will be opportunities for this as well. The initiative will have a distinctive Christian flavour but be accessible and welcoming to those outside the Christian faith as well.

Richard Harries will be convening a series of seminars on T.S.Eliot’s Four Quartets on Thursdays at 4 or 4.30 pm (to be confirmed) beginning on January 7th 2021 and lasting for one and a half hours. The first two will be in church, socially distanced. All are welcome, no prior expertise is needed and all you will require is a copy of the poem, available in paperback from about £10. You can also listen to T S Eliot reading the poem on YouTube The series may run into Lent. This poem expresses Eliot’s mature faith and repays close reading. This year, St Michael and All Angels has an Advent theme of prayer and spirituality at home, inspired by the amount of time we have all had to spend at home this year. Rev Stephen Stavrou writes: “Our sermons, books and discussion groups seek to help us connect our faith with the daily practice of living. To see the sacred in the secular and secular in the sacred.”

Advent Journey from Christ Church, East Sheen
Each day during Advent receive by email a daily reflection based on an image poem or text, following the themes of change, uncertainty, light and hope. Each day there will be a simple activity or craft. Please email russenbergerjudith@gmail.com if you wish to take part.
This year All Saints, East Sheen are looking at the Nativity and Person of Jesus – what the Gospels say about his birth, what Jesus says about himself, and why these things matter to our faith. We held an Open Meeting via Zoom with Lucy Abraham from Glass Door on Thursday, 26th November. Lucy spoke about the current situation for rough sleepers locally, Glass Door’s intended response in line with the Covid related restrictions and the support that churches and individuals can give to Glass Door.
During the talk, Lucy mentioned many ways that you can support the work of Glass Door or help a homeless person.
If you are concerned about someone over the age of 18 that you have seen sleeping rough in London, you can use the Streetlink website to send an alert to StreetLink. The details you provide will be reviewed by the StreetLink team who will look at the information you provide and make a judgement as to whether the alert is suitable to be sent to the local street outreach for the area in which you have seen the person, to help them find the individual and connect them to support.
It is important to note that if you think the person you are concerned about is under 18 please do not contact StreetLink but instead call the police.

On Wednesday 21st October, 8pm to 9pm Holy Trinity, Richmond are running a Secret Church event. Hosted by Emma Worrell from Open Doors, Secret Church is an event created by Open Doors to help us understand and worship alongside the world’s hidden Christians.
The COVID-19 crisis has meant we’ve all experienced what it’s like not to be able to meet in a church building or gather in large numbers. But, for millions of Christians across the world, that’s what life is like all the time. In many countries, Christians have never entered a physical church building. They have never experienced the buzz of worshipping with hundreds of others, or even sung to God in anything above a whisper.
They are the secret church. They meet under the cover of darkness; in caves, forests and cellars; in the middle of the night, at dawn and on the run from secret police. They gather under the arches of bridges and even meet in stinking toilets in prison camps.
Yet wherever they meet – they find Jesus there. And that’s what we can learn from them: that lockdown doesn’t mean we are alone; that even though we are separated, we can still be Church.

A new Zoom study group looking at some readings for the season of “creationtide” started on 21st September. During September and October, the Church of England, encourages us to focus on God as creator and sustainer of all life. Each week the group will look at a bible reading on this theme, and discuss it.
The group meets online at 2.30pm for an hour for 5 weekly sessions, from Monday 21st September to Monday 19th October inclusive. If you would like to join please email Rev James Hutchings (revdjames@stmarybarnes.org) to get the Zoom invitation.
